I was thinking the other morning when I was in the shower before work how much music has played a part in recent years in my play sessions. It didn’t always used to be that way, though.
When I was first starting out in BDSM, play sessions were always quiet. No music, no outside interactions. Nothing. It was just me and my submissive (or when that time came, both of my subs), and the scene was, well, what it was. We played, interacted, had our quiet time afterward, and then went back upstairs (my playspace is in the basement) and went on with our visit. It was only years later when I went to a private play party at someone’s house that I was introduced to their version of play, and it involved adding music to the mix. And not just soft sensual background music; what some might term elevator music or Muzak, there were things as diverse as Frank Sinatra, or a thumping, grinding sort of track that dovetailed nicely with a flogging session. Then there was this track that I’m referencing up top.
I know of Gregorian music, I’ve heard it before, but this was a bit more hm, on point? I’m pretty sure the Gregorian monks of that area never had the equipment to add a backing track to their chants. But damn, it works.
We’re hip deep in what I call the ‘doldrums of Winter’ since there aren’t any major holidays until Easter. It’s still cold outside (here in the Northeast USA), stark and bleak and there isn’t a lot to do outside unless you’re 4. Sure I could go for a good snowball fight right now, but I’m contemplating doing a little house cleaning and while I was at it, thought this would be a good thing to share. Thanks for reading.
By the by, do you happen to use music in your BDSM play? If so, what are your favorite genres, tracks?
